The piston rings placement on the piston is crucial to proper compression and oil distribution.
• Top Ring if it has writing usually will have a 1 and or a single letter that needs to face visible top. The top ring is usually polished as well.
• 2nd Ring if it has written will usually have 2 and or a letter or pair of letters that need also a face visible top.
• Expanding Ring is the wavy ring on the inside with the two thin flat smooth Side Rings on the top and bottom. They make a group called the Oil Rings.
• Gapping the rings in reference to the other rings. The Mercedes Benz Logo helps to remind of their 120-degree rotational offsets.
